Julep Gunta

Tonight's polish is Julep Gunta from the Julep + Trina Turk collection released in September. Royal blue seems to be having a moment right now and a lot of polish lines are releasing similar polishes. Of course, it's a gorgeous color, so it's not like I can blame them. Gunta is described as an "elevated royal blue creme." I'm not actually sure what 'elevated' really means, quite honestly, but Gunta is definitely is a royal blue polish. It's bright, but there are brighter blue polishes out there.

Gunta is, of course, a perfect Julep creme polish. It applied perfectly (of course) and I only needed two coats to get good, opaque coverage. I didn't have issues with staining on the nail, but I would definitely recommend using a base coat just in case, since this is pretty pigmented. I actually do think this photographed slightly lighter than it is in real life.

While Gunta is definitely gorgeous, it seems similar to Revlon Royal, Nails Inc Baker St and China Glaze Man Hunt. I really like this color, but you can find others that are similar. I really want to compare this to China Glaze First Mate and Rescue Beauty Lounge Dead Calm, but I'm pretty sure they aren't dupes.

  1. I have no idea what elevated means in relation to this color, either, but it's definitely pretty. It's got a dusty quality that makes me think it might be closer to RBL IKB:2012.

    1. Hah, I had completely forgotten about that polish! Whoops. Good catch. I will try to do a comparison, but I always say that and then never do.
