Pahlish Star Wars Trio

Ok, strap yourselves in for a long, picture heavy post! Today I have a trio of Star Wars themed polishes from Pahlish that were released around Thanksgiving back in 2015, right before The Force Awakens was released. These are all jelly based polishes with a combination of glitters and flakies in them! They are based on various locations from the original trilogy!

First up is Two Moon Sunset. I find the name a little confusing because I think the maker actually means the binary sunset we see on Tatooine. That's my story and I'm sticking to it! Two Moon Sunset has a red base with red and platinum flakes, microglitters and shimmer. I used three coats here but I think two would have been fine. The jelly base is a little thick but this goes on very easily and dries quickly.

Next up is Winds of the Cloud City, based on Bespin from The Empire Strikes Back. This one has a blue jelly base with blue and platinum flakes, microglitter, and shimmer. I used three coats here but probably could have gotten away with two.

And lastly we have The Forest Moon, based on the planet Endor from Return of the Jedi. As the name probably suggests, The Forest Moon is a green based polish with platinum and green flakies and green microglitters. I found that this to be a little thicker and I needed three coats to make sure it was even and opaque.

These are just simply gorgeous and even a year and a half later they still have good formula and are easy to use. I love all of them; it's hard to pick a favorite! If I have to choose, The Forest Moon wins by just the smallest of margins because I love the mix of flakies and glitter-- it has the most depth to it! But these are all great and lovely!

Shleee Polish Scarif and Destruction of Jedha

I'm starting out the week with a two-fer! Today I have two newer polishes from Shleee Polish, and they are both inspired by new planets from the newest Star Wars movie, Rogue One! First up is Scarif, which is a tropical planet that housed the plans for the Imperial projects, including the Death Star.

Scarif is a light sky blue creme with a gorgeous gold and pink shimmer. I was really pleased with the formula-- it was nicely pigmented and went on very smoothly and easily. I used three coats here, though you might be able to get away with two depending on your polishing style. It was an easy three coats and went on very quickly. I loved how this looked on my nails and I didn't want to take it off!

Next up, we have the Destruction of Jedha, and sorry, the title of the polish is a slight spoiler if you haven't seen the movie. (Which you should, because it's really good.) The planet of Jedha is place of pilgrimage for those who believe in the Force and also a place where the Empire was mining kyber crystals to power the Death Star. As a polish, the Destruction of Jedha is a green based polish that shifts purple and is packed with multicolor flakies! The formula was good-- this went on easily and the flakies were dispersed well throughout the base. I did used my standard three coats, but probably could have gotten away with two.

I really love both of these! The colors are gorgeous and I love that they have different finishes. Scarif definitely recalls the lush, blue waters of the tropics and Destruction of Jedha shifts between many different colors, capturing the frozen desert. It's hard to pick a favorite, though Scarif holds a slight edge because I love a good blue and the shimmer!

Girly Bits Grandma Got Run Over by a John Deere

Technically this is a polish from Christmas (as you can probably tell by the name) and is the other half of the December COTM duo. From the Girly Bits website, Grandma Got Run Over by a John Deere is described as an "interesting shade of green that sits somewhere between dill pickle and pine. I know, strange description. It's an interesting colour. It has a squishy depth to it, with a strong copper shift, and is swimming with the tiniest holographic sparkles." This is spot-on. There's a lot happening in this polish, and all of it is amazing and awesome! The copper shift compliments the other half of this duo and it's a fun twist on a traditional Christmas color (deep green).

Grandma Got Run Over by a John Deere had a good formula; a little thick but in a good way. The first coat was a little sheer due it's jelly-like consistency, but the second coat was almost opaque. I added a third coat for good measure because you know me-- I'm like that!

See.how.pretty!! One of my kids' swim teachers actually complimented me on this! I love that. And she's not wrong, as this polish is really unique and beautiful. Even though green has never been my favorite polish color, I have really fallen in love with shifty green duochromes and this polish definitely falls into that category. It's complicated and gorgeous and I would seriously buy a whole range of polishes like this.

Different Dimension Leaf Me Alone

It's been awhile since I featured a Different Dimension polish! Today's green is an oldie but goodie: Leaf Me Alone. I actually think I bought this back in 2016 on sale (I'm pretty sure it was a fall 2015 polish... Good grief, I'm terrible.) So this has been sitting in my stash for awhile. BUT NO MATTER! Because Leaf Me Alone is still a good looking polish and I wanted to wear it in the lead up to this year's St. Patrick's Day. It's a yellow toned green holographic that could be called chartreuse, though yellow toned lime green would also work. 

Leaf Me Alone had a pretty good formula. It's a little thick but not problematically so; it goes on smoothly. The first coat was a little sheer, but it built up nicely. I used three coats to get opaque coverage over my wide nail beds, though I suspect overs might be able to get away with two. 

I love funky greens like this! I think the yellow tones work well with my skin and it's a more unusual color, which is fun. This was insanely holographic, which I loved. My camera is really bringing out the yellow here, but in real life it's pretty green, as you can maybe tell by the holographic flash. In any case, I really liked this! Happy to have it in my collection! 

Sinful Colors Works Like A Charm

It's the week of St Patrick's Day, so I figured we'll go with a green theme this week! I picked Sinful Colors Works Like a Charm on a whim a week or so ago-- not that I need any new polish, but I've been jonesing for a mint and gold combo recently and for the reasonable price of $1.99, I decided I couldn't go wrong with this. Works Like a Charm is one of the St Patrick's Day collection Sinful Colors put out this year. There was another green I am wishing I had grabbed as well, but this was definitely a good choice.

The formula was ok, but not great. It's a little thick and prone to dragging, unfortunately. That said, I did used a light touch and used thinner coats and that made the application ok. Honestly, it could have been much worse so I'm pretty happy. After two coats I still had a uneven patches so I used my typical third coat and I think it looks great.

I got several compliments on this, which of course I always love when I wear a polish. I love the combination of mint and gold; it's so pretty! The formula wasn't perfect, but is acceptable for the price. I loved wearing this!

Enchanted Polish Prism of Darkness

To close out this week of Enchanted Polish, today I have a fun collaboration shade to share with you from Enchanted Polish and the blogger Fashion Polish! This was a collaboration for Fashion Polish's bloggaversary. The inspiration was her love of physics and prisms and vampy polishes. Prism of Darkness is described as a "deep purple holographic with color-shifting simmer." 

Perhaps not shockingly, this had a great formula! Prism of Darkness is nicely pigment and goes on smoothly. I probably could have gotten away with two coats but I used my usual three coats to make sure there weren't any thin spots on my giant nail beds.

This polish is stunning! I love duochrome holographics and this one is definitely unique to my collection. I love how strong the shift is-- you don't see this sort very often. What a lovely polish; this collaboration was a real winner!

Enchanted Polish January 2016

Next up, I have January 2016, so this poor polish is already over a year old! Ack. I think this happens to all of us nail polish bloggers, though! Only so many polishes you can wear at one time!  January 2016 is a pinky beige nude creme with a strong yellow green shimmer.

I was expecting this to be a little bit tricky to work with, but I really didn't have any problems! The polish is on the thinner side,but is pigmented and flows easily on to the nail. I did use a light touch to avoid streaking, but that honestly wasn't too much of an issue! I used three coats here to make sure I didn't have any thin spots!

This color is a lovely nude, though I think it's maybe a touch too pink for my skin tone and gives me slight lobster hands. The contrasting green shimmer, though, is a lot of fun and makes it feel different from most nudes. It certainly makes it fun and unique and I love how much the shimmer stands out. Even though it doesn't quite suit my skin tone, I like this a lot! 

Enchanted Polish December 2016

Today I have another one of Enchanted Polish's monthly mystery polishes to share with you-- this one is December 2016. (I actually have the whole year... because I remember to purchase them during every preorder but of course I am behind, please don't act so shocked.) Last year Enchanted switched to doing shimmers for the monthly mystery polish instead of holos, which displeased some people, but I love shimmer so I was happy to see the change of pace. It remains to be seen if/what type of finish she'll do this year, assuming she keeps doing the monthly mystery polishes at all. December 2016 is a red creme with a strong green-gold shimmer running throughout.

December 2016 was a little thick, and definitely thickened up as I used it though I didn't really have any issues applying it. I used three coats because I felt like two coats still gave me some thin patches, and thicker coats can lead to some "streaks" in the finish due to the heavy shimmer-- in fact, the shimmer also gives the polish a metallic look and feel but it definitely isn't metallic. But it wasn't too bad in the end, as you can see!

On the nail this doesn't look quite like it does in the bottle, it's still really pretty. The overall effect of the shimmer gives the final appearance a more rusty red look than I anticipated; that said, it's quite unique looking and I liked the finished look. Definitely a unique one! Probably one of my favorites from the last year of mysteries!

Love Angeline 10/16

Again, starting off with sad news... Love Angeline has also decided to close her doors! It's not happening until February but it will be happening and they are slowly cleaning out inventory. I'm not totally surprised by this announcement, as Natosha had previously posted she had considered closing Love Angeline, and recently handed the reins of the business over to a friend, even though she was still making all the polish. So while not unexpected, it is a shame because she has produced a lot of lovely polishes and I have enjoyed them! Luckily for you, I'm behind in all the polishes I do have, so you will some other lovelies from this brand.

10/16 is a deep olive green holographic. There's not much more to say there! It's a nicely pigmented polish and was maybe a titch on the thicker side, but nothing difficult to work with. Usually I make a quick note if I used two coats, so I think I must have used three here, though I feel like two would have been fine. I don't have much more to add-- I didn't have any issues with this!

Hey, another gorgeous green! 10/16 is definitely dark, but it doesn't veer into black territory and works well for the darker colors we see in the fall and winter months. I feel like photos don't capture it as well as I would have like, but it's very pretty!

Daily Hues Nail Lacquer The Peacemaker

Like I said, I went on a green kick last month and so here's another green polish for you! Today's polish is Daily Hues Nail Lacquer The Peacemaker. This polish was actually a custom for someone in the FB group, but she gave permission for Jenn to recreate the polish in a small batch for anyone who was interested in buying it. The unique color intrigued me, and so I decided to snag a bottle while I could. The designer of this polish says that it was based on the saying "extending the olive branch" and so it was given the name The Peacemaker. The polish is an olive green creme with golden shimmer flakes and just a tiny bit of holographic sparkle.

Big news: I only used two coats here! This is a pretty thick creme, but not in an unworkable way-- the kind that's nicely pigment and goes on easily and so two coats is just perfect! I didn't have any issues and this was easy to apply! Despite the darker base color, the shimmer isn't swallowed up and gives the whole polish just the right amount of sparkle and light without being overwhelming.

Hey look, another green I like! Maybe the world is ending, haha. But seriously, I do think this is a really love polish. The color, the name... it just works! As I mentioned the last time I blogged about a Daily Hues polish, the brand is currently on hiatus which may or may not be permanent (at this point I would guess permanent but we'll see) so unfortunately this polish is no longer available. But I still have goodies from Daily Hues I plan on sharing with you this year!

Enchanted Polish October 2016

A couple weeks ago I was really on a green kick and lucked out because I had several very lovely green polishes just waiting to be taken for a spin! Today I have one of the Enchanted Polish monthly mysteries to share with you, October 2016. This year the mystery polishes are all shimmers (as opposed to her usual holographics) and as a shimmer fan, I'm loving it! October 2016 is a serene sea green creme with a strong blue shimmer.

The formula on the first coat was a little thin; a bit thinner than I would have expected, but not difficult to use. I used three coat here to reach the level of opacity I wanted. Two coats might have worked, but I wanted to make sure I didn't have any thin spots. The shimmer is gorgeous and strong and doesn't get lost in the deeper base color, as you can see from my photos!

I loved this polish more than I expected! To me, it looks like glass and I love it so so much. I have warmed up to green polish a lot as I have blogged-- well it's still not usually the first color I reach for, there are a lot of gorgeous greens out there and I would add October 2016 to that list. This goes on the list for one of my favorite polishes of last year! The blue shimmer combined with the base is just such a lovely combination and I can't get enough of it!

Colors by Llarowe Summer Always

Hah, it's a little late to be posting this but time has been getting away from me (not a good feeling heading into the holidays)! Another week and I'm totally unprepared with posts and pictures etc etc! Ugh. Football season is almost over and then the holidays are upon us-- can you believe Thanksgiving is next week?! I'm starting to panic just a little. Today I have the Colors by Llarowe POTM from September(?), which is called Summer Always. Seems pretty appropriate for that month, when we are generally clinging to last of the warm weather. I have to say we had a pretty nice fall out here in Seattle, with lots of sunny, crisp days. Hard to beat that, especially when the rain comes! Summer Always is a very pretty mint green holographic with a strong pink shimmer. 

CbL Summer Always falls right in line with other polishes from this line-- no complaints. I wore this a month ago so I can't remember all the details but I probably used three coats here as that's what I usually do! There certainly aren't any issues that standout to me as I think back to it. 

Because I'm blogging this so late, the color is a little off for the season but it's still a gorgeous color! I love that the pink shimmer doesn't get lost in the base. I also like that it's a slightly deeper mint base too. I feel like this color may not be totally unique these days, but I love the combo of holo and shimmer and am always happy to have more of those in my collection!

Girly Bits What Happens in Vegas... Ends Up on Twitter

Ugh, trying to get back in the groove of blogging. It's hard when you get out of practice for any length of time! This post was supposed to go up last month but I kept putting it off and off and here we are in November! Today I have this year's LE Cosmoprof shade from Girly Bits, the fourth in a series entitled What Happens in Vegas... Ends Up on Twitter. This was a LE shade released this summer for CosmoProf in Vegas, so if you missed, unfortunately you are probably out of luck for the time being (though previous shades have made a return before, so maybe it'll be released again in the future). Sorry it's taken me so long to get it up!

What Happens in Vegas.... Ends Up on Twitter is described as a "denim blue holo that shifts from pink to gold, with an added sprinkling of gorgeous aqua holographic glitter." I guess this is mostly accurate? I see a lot of purple in the demin blue base and I feel there's a slight overall green shift to the polish.I only used two coats here. I probably would have used three to be thorough, but the brush was giving me some fits and two coats looked pretty good. 

As you can see, my camera picks up a lot of purple, but its kind of a dusty blue-purple. I couldn't really catch of the shift but I did manage to get some of the turquoise (errr, aqua) glitters: 

Pardon the one chip and focus on the glitters! What Happens in Vegas.... Ends Up on Twitter is just gorgeous; I'm really glad I snagged this! These polishes never fail to disappoint! I can't wait to see what color Pam comes up with next year!

Love Angeline 08/16

Today I have another of the monthly LE polishes from Love Angeline to share with you! This is 08/16, which means it's from August. We're only just into Otcober here (I know I've skipped July and really, a ton of other months) but I think the color works as a transition color for fall.

I've seen 08/16 described as an aqua holographic, but to me this polish leans so green that aqua doesn't quite fit, even though there blue tones to the polish. Perusing Wikipedia to see their list of green shades, it occurred to me that I would describe 08/16 as a spruce green-- think Christmas trees; it's a dusty greyed green with blue tones. It's a bit of a chameleon in that sense; the color shifts around from green to grey green to blue green depending on the lighting conditions. I didn't have any problems when applying this-- I think I used three coats, though I probably could have gotten away with two! No issues to report!

The holographic flame on this is just lovely; this might be one of my favorite polishes from Love Angeline! I find 08/16 to be a unique green (holographic or otherwise) in my collection, and I loved wearing this and studying it. I thought the color was very flattering and I'm really glad I picked this one up!

Enchanted Polish The Youth

I'm going to try a slight change in my post schedule-- I've been aiming for five posts a week but am now going to hit four instead because I've been falling behind! I'm hoping giving myself a break day (Wednesday in this case) will help me stay on top of things! Today I have another polish that I actually wore awhile ago: Enchanted Polish The Youth. This was a re-release, just like Future Reflections.

The Youth is a green to bronze shifting duochrome holographic. Like most Enchanteds and from what I recall, the formula was good. I used at least two coats, but probably three coats because I'm like that.

I know you are looking at the photos above and saying "green?! Cat, you are full of it!" But truly, I am not lying! Here I've got a slightly different lighting situation so you can see the green tone of the polish (and really, it was green in most lights-- the flash brought out the bronze tones).

Look at that!! Pretty stunning, right? I love this, maybe more than Future Reflections! There's something about a green duochrome that I just freaking love! Pretty much one of my favorite ways to wear green! I love this one so much! Hope everyone is having a good Monday!

Different Dimension Totally 2.0

I actually saw Totally 2.0 recently over on Imperfectly Painted and knowing that it was lurking somewhere in my stash, I knew I had to pull this out and wear it before the summer was over. Totally 2.0 was a polish from last summer's 80's Baby -- All Grown Up collection, which was a revamp of neon shades that had been previously released. Totally 2.0 is supposed to be the yellow of the group, but I would describe it was a "lime-green lemon" (taken from one of my kids' books) because it's a yellow with a strong green tone... or a green with a strong yellow tone? Either way, it's neon yellow/green with a golden shimmer to it.

Totally 2.0 had a formula similar to Psyche, but slightly better-- it's a touch thick but easy enough to control and apply. I used three coats and was happy; you might be able to get away with two careful coats. Totally 2.0 dries down to a matte finish, so you need a top coat to really bring out the shimmer.

Totally 2.0 does not disappoint! Yes, the formula is not perfect, but I love the color so much (gimme all the shimmer!) that it makes up for the slight formula issues. I also really like the funky yellow green color going on here; it's just awesome! This might be my favorite neon of the year, even though this was released in 2015, hah!

Colors by Llarowe Enjoy-mint POTM June 2016

Happy hump day! It's a long week for me because I'm solo parenting this week, but that's part of being an adult. We're all surviving and that's really the important part, haha! Today I have the June POTM from Colors by Llarowe, Enjoy-mint, and the name is a bit of a give away because this is described as a "linear mint green holographic." And I would say that's accurate, though perhaps Enjoy-mint is slightly deeper than a typical mint. 

Like all CbL polishes, the formula of Enjoy-mint was good. The formula was slightly thinner than most CbL polishes so the first coat was a little sheer but it built up easily. I used three coats but this went on smoothly and easily and dried quickly. Definitely no complaints here! 

Such a pretty green! This is just deep enough that it doesn't give me lobster hands, and I think the color is gorgeous. The holo is present but not overwhelming. Another great POTM from CbL!

Throwback Thursday: OPI Damone Roberts 1968

Oh man, the end of July has really thrown off my posting, which was not my intent. I'm just busier than anticipated and we have had a lot going on and I'm just not on the ball-- in fact, I even wore one polish for FIVE days because I just had no time to change it! That's very unusual for me! I'll try to get some posts scheduled this weekend so I can get back on top of things; it's already August and I have a ton of summer colors that I have been planning on wearing and blogging. Oh, so many things to do! Today I have a fun throwback polish on the blog! Damone Roberts 1968 has actually been released three times that I'm aware of; I got my polish from the third release (second re-release?!) so I can't say how it compares colorwise to the other two, but I *think* they are all pretty close. Has anyone actually done the comparison? Anyway, Damone Roberts 1968 is based on the color of paint used in his salons in CA and NY, and which Roberts describes as "a unique pistachio... a different green with undertones of a soft grey, and a warm brown that works well on every skin tone." Personally, I see a lot of yellow tones in the and more than pistachio, this polish gives me soothing jade vibes. I'll be honest, I'm not even all that familiar with Damone Roberts, but I guess he is an eyebrow guru! I do love a well maintained brow-- mine grow crazy long so I have to have them waxed and trimmed on a regular basis.

The formula of Damone Roberts 1968 was good! A bit on the thin side, but nicely pigmented and easy to apply. I used a light touch to avoid any potential streaks and it covered well in two coats, though I did use a third for good measure to make sure there weren't any thin spots. I didn't have any issues!

Like many of my polishes, I'm not really sure why I let this one sit around for so long because I really liked it! OPI was pretty much my start into "serious" nail polish and even though I actually don't reach for many OPI polishes these days, picking up a bottle is like running into an old friend. I feel like this shade of green is very soothing and very flattering; while I don't normally gravitate towards greens there was something about this that I loved. I was actually sad to remove it after wearing it for a couple of days! It's such a lovely, soft color.

 I bought my bottle on Amazon for $10 (and I had rewards points so I actually just had to pay shipping) and it says it's from Damone Roberts, so I'm pretty sure it's legit. It's also still available on the Damone Roberts website if you'd prefer to buy it direct.
