Football Friday: Julep Alfre

This is our second to last Football Friday! Time really flies, doesn't it? Thanksgiving is next week (already?!) and Christmas is right around the corner!

This week the Huskies are on the road to face the Oregon State Beavers, a team that has struggled mightily this season and only has two wins. The Huskies are currently on two game losing streak and need to shake off their lethargy and get back to the business of playing football, especially with our rivalry game looming next week. The Huskies are also in a tricky situation this week because our starting quarterback is out with a sprained knee. It will be interesting to see how our back-up quarterback performs in his first college start.

This week I pulled out Julep Alfre. I received as part of my first Julep Maven box. Alfre was one of the colors in Julep's fall collection. Julep describes Alfre as a "royal metropolitan purple with hint of shimmer" but I don't know if that description is quite accurate. I think of Alfre as a smoky greyed out lavendar with a very subtle shimmer. Here I used two coats over the Julep Base Coat and then finished it with a coat of Essie Good to Go Top Coat.

This is a really subdued purple, but still really pretty. However, the finish is interesting-- kind of frosty and streaky. You definitely need to be careful with brush strokes with Alfre.

I tried something a little different and tried to do a "funky French" manicure by painting my tips with OPI Glitzerland. I wasn't thrilled with the results, so I ended up scraping this, but here is the end product:

It's not terrible, but I think it would look better in another color combination. And that wraps up this Football Friday post!

Go Dawgs! Beat the Beavers!

  1. The first picture made me think "that's a nice gray", then I saw the other pictures. It is actually a pretty silvery gray polish.

  2. Yeah, it does have a silvery gray aspect to it-- my pictures do bring that out. But it is indeed purple!
