Birthday Manicure - My first glitter sandwich!

Hey all! Hope you are had an excellent Monday... mine was excellent because it was my birthday! I turned 29 today, which makes me one year closer to 30, ahhhh! But despite being a very grey day here in Seattle, I had a very nice birthday and am about to head out to a Chinese dinner with my hubby and my sister and her boyfriend. Good times!

I decided to do something I haven't done before, but that a lot of other nail polish bloggers have: a glitter sandwich. It's a pretty simple concept: you put down your base color, then the glitter you want to use, then add a layer of sheer jelly color over the top to seal in the glitter. And viola! Glitter sandwich! It's simplistic but you can create some very fun manicures with it.

I unfortunately don't own a ton of jelly polishes, so I had to figure out what to do with what I had. I've seen a lot of people do light colored jelly sandwiches using multi colored glitter, so that's where I decided to start. Since I just swatched RBL Square Pants (a sheer yellow jelly) I decided to use that. I used 1-2 coats of Julep Blake as a base, then used one coat of OPI Rainbow Connection followed by one coat of RBL Square Pants (and a top coat, of course).

Picture heavy, be warned!!

I love how this looks. Using a sheer color on top really softens the look of the glitter, which I like. It looks like candy! I don't know if I'm in love with the yellow color, but I do like it. I definitely need to play around with this some more.

  1. This is a totally fun sandwich! It's perfect for a bday; it looks like frosting with sprinkles. :D I've been thinking of sandwich possibilities, too, but all the necessary components I own are Christmassy. lol. And happy birthday!!
