Cult Nails Blackout

Today's polish is Cult Nails Blackout, yet another "limited edition" polish that went on sale during Cult Nails' Black Friday sale. Like the other two polishes, Maria says that Blackout will probably be added to her core line of colors--and it's supposed to be back in stock in late March.

Contrary to its name, Blackout isn't a pure black polish. Blackout is a very dark slate grey polish with a gorgeous shimmer that is almost black, literally. It's a black that isn't actually black. The shimmer is pretty subtle-- you can only really see it in my pictures with flash, as that helps pick it up. Similarly to Feel Me Up and Tied Up, this has a jelly creme finish. The first coat goes on pretty sheer, but two coats will make it opaque. If you have wide nail beds like myself, or really long nails you may need three coats to get complete coverage. I personally loved the jelly finish with this dark polish, it's awesome. Dries to a lovely high gloss finish-- the pictures below have no top coat.

I'm not sure how often I'll wear this polish, as I'm not a huge fan of black polish, though it has grown on me. It's nice to have a couple of different black polishes to choose from when I am looking for something dark!

  1. I love the look of this polish. It is a slightly softer alternative to the jet blacks.

  2. I like that it's black without actually being black. And you're right-- it does have a softer look.
