Cult Nails Alter Ego

Tonight I have the first polish from the Cult Nails Deceptive Collection, which is a collection of five top coats designed to transform the whatever polish you put underneath them. Tonight I have Alter Ego, which is described as a "sheer top coat that will cast a gold and green tinge over your polish, creating an aged, antiqued look." Sounds good to me!

In the bottle, Alter Ego has a slight pinkish cast with a golden shimmer. Here I have applied one coat of Alter Ego over American Apparel Hassid, which is a gorgeous opaque black creme. You don't need too much of this polish to cover your base color-- in fact, you don't want too much because you will get streaks of the top coat. This went on easily and smoothly and I didn't have any issues. It dries down fairly quickly and I didn't use a top coat here. There's also a hint of mutlti-color shimmer in this, in addition to the gold-green shift. Lovely!

I love the antique feeling that Alter Ego gives when layered over black and I would love to see it layered over a dark brown, green or grey. I initially wanted to layer this over several colors when I reviewed this polish, but in the end just had time to layer it over black. Hopefully I can come back to this in the future-- though probably not before the new year because I'm just too busy!

  1. It is kind of a burnished look, how neat! I totally went through these backwards, lol. What a fun collection.
